BCCC v Richmond BCCC 221 for 7 in 40 overs beat Richmond CC 202 by 26 runs .
Firstly, one of our players picked up a finger fracture in 2 places whilst keeping. So just to wish Mr Pitcher a speedy recovery especially for Claudia's sake as I am sure she will bear the brunt of your inability to do even a few basic everyday things ... Secondly, it was great seeing a few wives and kids on the Common once again, the sight of kids playing on the boundary lines brings back old memories. It would be good to see them a bit more often .Thanks to both Vish's and Ash's family in particular .
Barnes Common CC 2020 season: Played - 2. Won - 2
BCCC 221 for 7 in 40 overs beat Richmond CC 202 by 26 runs .
Debutants - Keshav , another Aussie import . Toss - Won by BCCC captain for the 2nd time in a row and we decided to bat first. Pitch - Not easy to bat on, unpredictable to say the least for most players except for Zef and Keshav. Weather - Turned into a lovely sunny day after the gloomy start we had to the day
BCCC batting - The brothers Zef and Hamza opened the innings for BCCC. But it was not Hamza's day as he was out cheaply for 3 in the 2nd over.. Only 4 BCCC bats got into double figures as we were up against some very good bowling spells by RCC bowlers. Thanks to Zef's lovely knock 80 and Keshav's spirited 65. BCCC ended up with 221 on the board with a bit of help from Ash 22 and Sanjay 19. It was great watching Zef and Keshav put on a 100 run partnership on the common. Zef is always impressive but Keshav matched him all through considering the last time he played on a turf wicket was 7 years ago.
Stand out bowler for Richmond CC was Kyle who was actually playing for BCCC on Sunday by taking 3 key wickets Batting figures -Zef - 80 , Hamza - 3 , Sanjay 19 , Keshav - 65 , Vish - 6 , Graeme - 0 , Ash - 22 , Andrew P - 1 n.o, AJ- 6 .
Richmond CC batting - our spies told us that RCC had 4-5 good bats in the team along with quite a few young colts. RCC did not start as well as they would have liked thanks to our opening bowling pair of Vish and Hamza. That did not stop Vish from bowling the fastest I have seen him bowl in a long time to whoever was brave enough to come out to bat. In his 1st over he had their opener caught at slip and went on to terrorise the other bats before the captain decided to take him off especially after Andrew P ended up fracturing his finger trying to stop a ball from Vish. Hamza at the other end in between making sure his new hairstyle was in place took two quick wickets to have RCC reeling at 53 for 4 in the 9th over still needing over 168 runs. Thanks to Cameron 24, Ayaan - 35, Asad - 43 and a captain’s knock of 35 not out by Paddy RCC got close but it was not to be and RCC ended up 26 runs short. Zef was unlucky not to get his first wicket when he bowled the last over of the innings when the batsman was dropped at long on.
Stand out bowler/s for BCCC - Vish & Hamza Bowling figures : Vish - 5-1-19-1, Hamza - 6-1-18-2, Graeme - 4-1-16-0, Ash - 5-1-12-1, Adi - 6-0-41-1, Kyle - 5-0-12-3, AJ- 4-0-20-1, Howard - 4-0-29-1, Zef- 1-0-11-0 .
Conclusion - a good game of cricket played in a nice friendly but competitive spirit.
Man of the Match - Keshav for his 1st game out for BCCC and by running himself out for 35 short of his 1st hundred for his new club!
Catch of the match - Hamza for his return catch low on his left in his follow through. For a change his hair did not get in the way1 Shot of the day- Vish for his 6 over square leg, nicely picked up and deposited in the trees . Embarrassing moments - A few grumbles, more from Graeme than Vish as they thought they were given out incorrectly.
