BCCC 2019 season : Wins - 1 , Lost - 1 , Draws - 0
Barnes CCC (BCCC) 156 in 30 overs out of 35 lost to Roehampton CC (RCC) by 1 wicket !! Debutantes - Nisar Toss - BCCC lost it but were put in to bat .. Pitch - Not an easy wicket to bat on for most of us .. Weather - Cloudy but pleasant day for cricket. BCCC batting - Matt and Graeme opened for Barnes . Matt departed early after scoring 5 . Graeme was joinedby Sanjay but it was not to be and Sanjay was bowled for 6 shortly after coming in . Graeme was then joined by Chrisand they both put on 60 runs to take BCCC to 68 for 2 of 16 overs. Chris was playing well but unfortunately was bowled for33 after the drinks break. Nik joined the fray and played a good solid innings of 36 along with Graeme to take BCCC to130 for 6 off 28 overs. Shortly after that Graeme was out for a well made 30 on his return to semi pro cricket at the common .Nisar scored a quick 18 of 10 balls and Andrew Pitcher chipped in with useful 11 but once he departed BCCC innings apart as welost 4 wickets without scoring a single run in the 31st over and ended up not playing out the remaining 4 overs. This left BCCC about 20 runs short of a par score. Batting figures - Graeme - 30 , Matt - 5 , Sanjay - 6 , Zef - 1 , Chris - 33 , Nik- 36 , Nisar - 18 , Andrew P - 11 , Adi - 0 , Pete - Not out , Arun - 0 . Stand out bowler for RCC was Dhilhan Hannan with figures of 7-1-16-4.
Tea - Overall lovely as usual , a few polite requests were made to change some fillings .Thanks to Maureen and Dirk once again for organizing it. Scorer - Tks to Tim for scoring both innings and diplomatically collecting the match fees from both sides.
RCC batting - requiring 157 to win started cautiously as they lost both their openers for 5 runs apiece. Then started the match winning innings by Henry and Harry who put on 90 runs or so for the 3rd wicket and took RCC to 113 for 3 off 26 overs . Arun for BCCC did what he could to stop the free flow of runs and took the all important wicket of Henry out for 47 to give BCCC a sniff at victory. Arun took another wicket and ended up with very good figures as below but even though the match went to the wire as RCC needed 10 runs off the 35 th over it was not to be as RCC captain Stuart flicked the 5th ball of the over needing six runs for a lovely six over square leg and thus winning the game with 1 ball to spare !!! Congrats to RCC and commiserations to BCCC as the match could have gone either way. Even though a few crucial catches were dropped especially of one of the two main bats of RCC I won't name by who , overall BCCC fielding was good with the two exceptional fielders being on display in the form of Matt and Chris who between them must have saved over 20 runs . Andrew P did a great job behind the stumps ad even took one on the chin in the line of duty.
Great work lads , well done , shame about the result in the end. Chris for BCCC again had a fantastic game , good solid batting display , electric fielding and even better bowling figures as highlighted below . Bowling figures :- Graeme - 5.5 - 2 -29- 0 , Chris -7-2-9-2 , Adi - 4-0-30- 0 , Nisar - 6-0-26-0 , Arun -6-1-25-2 , Sanjay - 6-2-22-4 .
Conclusion - Shame BCCC lost but overall cricket was the winner as the game was only won off the penultimate ball of the innings .
Man of the Match - Arun for his outstanding catch at point , two wickets but most importantly stalling the RCC innings with his slow off spin bowling to give BCCC a chance of wining .
Catch/s of the Match - Arun at point .
Shot of the day- Nisar for a huge first six for BCCC over long on .
Embarrassing moment/s- An unnamed BCCC player throwing his bat in the air in frustration after being given out LBW as well as having a go in public at the poor offending umpire, not on. Not another Phil in the making hopefully !!!!
