Powerstock & Hooke 90 BCCC 91-6 - won by 4 wickets
Barnes CC 2020 Season - played 9 won 6 lost 2.
Powerstock & Hooke 90 . Barnes 91 for 6.
We played the fixture, unusually, at Beaminster, since the P&H pitch was unavailable. It has not been prepared this year. Beaminster are a decent league side, and the pitch was correspondingly good, so the low scores were a surprise, and a tribute to some good bowling on both sides, on a day when the ball dominated the bat.
They were one short, while we had 12, so I played for P&H.
Andrew Hurn was close to unplayable in the early overs, and took 4 for not very many, including a couple of very good bats, who were ringers from Beaminster strengthening the side. They were surprised, and hoped to cash in with the spinners. But Wal rolled back the years with 3 wickets in a very tight spell, restricting them to 90 off only 26 overs. Great keeping from Danny.
It looked likely to be a stroll in the park for BCCC, with a strong batting line-up. Justin and Keith started well, but both were dismissed fairly cheaply, as was Sir Henry, bowled by a quick left-armer. Their top 3 bowlers were fast and straight. It was left to George, with a rapid 25, to push us home with four wickets to spare.
A tight game, in the end, and pretty competitive. A few beers and ciders afterwards, before we returned for a BBQ in Broadwindsor, staged by Prue and JLudlow under strict COVID regulations. 3 gazebos spread out in the grounds, and another group in the garage (essential so that Peggy did not disturb the neighbours ). Without J-Lo’s space heaters we would have frozen to death as the weather was autumnal under a clear sky.
