BCCC v Jesters CC
BCCC - 200 Jesters CC - 190 Won by 10 runs
6th win of the season on a typical mixed weather English summer's day ....Someone mentioned that this is the first time in 6 years that we have beaten Jesters. So well done all for a great team effort and especially a big well done to twinkle toes Greg who danced like a butterfly and stung like a bee by running out Jesters' last recognised bat, Darcy, in the last over of the match. Jesters needed 14 off the last over and we ended up winning by 10 runs.
The day started well as most of the fathers had the look of being appreciated at least for one day of the year on Fathers' Day!!! We played with 12 men as George was keen to spend some quality time with his Dad Howard.
Barnes won the toss again and decided to bat first. Jesters bowled well and restricted Barnes to only 36 runs in the first 10 overs. First to get out was Nik after scoring 25. Graeme followed with 10. A few others chipped in with Vish - 15 , Sanjay - 67, Henry - 21 and George - 17 to get us up to 200 in 35 overs. The pitch played well for most of the day and no undue surprises even though we had rain for 5 of the 7 days of the week. Maybe the heavy rolling helped.. Only time will tell.
Jesters started very badly thanks to our opening bowling attack of Graeme and Vish. Graeme had their wicket keeper/opening bat Nag out for a duck off his 3rd ball of his first over, smartly caught by Sanjay at short mid wicket. Vish followed suit in his next over by clean bowling their number 3 bat Nikhil also a duck. Jesters at this stage were 2 down with only 3 on the board. Their opening left hand bat Short defied all odds by scoring 35 runs for them only to get himself clean bowled by trying to reverse sweep of all people Adi !!! BCCC bowlers collectively did a good job led by Anthony who came in midway to clean up their middle order who were in the early stages of getting a good partnership going. Anthony bowled with a lovely line and length and with great pace to end up with 3 for 20 in 4 overs. Graeme and Vish made life difficult for their top order batters giving away only 12 runs apiece and claiming a wicket each. Ably supported by Wally 1 for 26, Adi 1 for 27 and Sanjay 2 for 10. A very close, tension-packed game which went into the last over with Jesters needing 14 runs only. And as mentioned above if it was not for Greg's direct throw the match could have gone either way.
The only down side of the match was that we lost Adi in the middle of his bowling spell with a dislocated finger attempting a return catch. Hope you recover well Adi and we see you back on the cricket pitch next week and no excuses about a dislocated finger please. Man up!!
Man of the match - Sanjay - and before any smart arses say anything, no I did not award this to myself. I only accepted this under duress might I add .. as the decision was already made by a few of the boys before I had my say. Plus as you can see from the picture there was no trophy to hand out as Graeme who won it a few weeks ago wanted to keep it a bit longer besides his bedside table. So a squash bottle had to do the job I guess.
Catch/s of the match - Graeme for taking 2 crucial catches, one at deep square leg and the other running in 10 yards from cover.
