BCCC V LORD GNOME'S XI MAY 15th 35 Overs
BCCC 147 Lord Gnome's XI 115 Won by 32 runs
Another very hot and sunny day on the Common !! BCCC 147 in 27 overs. Lord Gnome
bowled out for 115 . First win of the season.
Day did not start well as we lost our key all rounder Graeme the first thing in the morning who in his excitement overdid the stretching exercises and had to sit out due to a stiff shoulder. Let's hope he recovers well. We had two sets of father and sons playing for Barnes. Thanks to Chris for stepping in at the last minute. Chris was a very handy addition as he is an ex international who represented Swaziland in rugby, squash and cricket. Joining him was his son Matt on one hand and the other being our very own Jon and Henry Walpole.
BCCC won the toss and decided to bat first. Got off to a bad start as the pitch started misbehaving itself when we lost the vice captain in the first over. In walked the captain who lasted a bit longer than last time for his 22. Next in was Henry who went back to his sun tanning session rather quickly without troubling the scoreboard. Phil got unlucky again LBW courtesy of our resident umpire Adi.
Suraj (24) along with Vish (61 with 6 sixes off 45 balls ) steadied the innings as they put on 80 odd for the 5 wicket partnership and took us past the 100 run mark. 16 extras helped and we made it to 147 in 27 overs .
Our bowling attack consisted of our wide selection of slow bowlers. Suraj and Wal bowled 14 overs between them Wal 3 for 23 off 7 overs and Suraj 1 for 20 off 7 overs destroyed the opposition's top order and left the rest to take the remaining 6 wickets. Keith 3 for 24 off 7 overs, Sanjay 2 for 15 off 6 overs and Henry 1 for 5 off 2 overs did the rest.
A real team effort. Well done all.
Definitely need to sort out the pitch. Hopefully our meeting on Wednesday with an ECB representative will get us on the right path.
