BCCC - 221 (33.5 overs) Win vs Post Mods - 159 (33.3 overs)
The day started with a bit of uncertainty due to the dark clouds looming over the common and short but brisk spells of showers which left the pitch fairly damp and the outfield seriously sluggish. However I will take credit for resolutely disregarding Pete H’s and Phil’s opinion to call off the game at 10.30am as the day turned out to be absolutely glorious. I took over the mantle from Sanj to lose the toss and keep that tradition going. Put into bat, BCCC were quick to lose Hassan for 0 to a brilliant ball in the first over. Nik’s poor nick for 2021 continued when he top edged a ball that stopped on him to cover. Khurram and Ciju played well before Ciju managed to under-edge one to the keeper and departed for 14. Khurram continued to plunder the oppositions bowling with some glorious shots for his 43, along with Phil who demonstrated absolute perseverance by scoring most of his gritty 45 behind the wicket (which included five boundaries scored at third man) . Hamza’s responsible innings of 68 with the support of Johnny (14) , Andrew H (10) and Gautam (3) saw BCCC put up a total of 221 in 33.5 overs.
Post tea Barnes started really well with Abdullah taking off one the openers for 0 with a dream delivery. BCCC continued to mount pressure on Post Mods by some great bowling from both ends which resulted in Suraj trying to up the ante and creamed a cover drive not before JLO took an unbelievable one handed catch bending backwards. In 12 overs, Post Mods had only managed to score 25 runs for the loss of 2 wickets when Nik was brought in as a first change bowler who bowled the spell of the season ending up with 3 scalps giving away just 10 runs. Post Mod’s opening Bat, Andy showed some resistance by scoring some quick runs of the bowlers to follow before falling LBW to a Quicker ball from me. Contributions from the bowling unit was a fine display as Johnny, Andrew H, Khurram bowled with their hearts but 221 proved as a daunting total to chase down.
Dropped catches - Phil dropping Andy at slips for 0 and Andrew H dropping Andy again at cow.
Perfect catches - JLO’s acrobatic one handed catch to dismiss Suraj and Andrew H’s catch over shouldering Johnny to dismiss Varun.
