Putney v BCCC. BCCC lost by 6 wickets

 Barnes Common CC 2019 season : Played - 17 , Wins - 13 , Lost - 4 , Rained off - 1   


BCCC 181 for 8 in 40 overs lost to Putney CC 182 for 4 by 6 wickets .    


Last time both teams met in May 2019 Barnes CCC 259 beat Putney CC 254 by 5 runs !!

Debutant- Nasir right arm medium fast bowler and can whack the ball also when required.    
Toss - WON by BCCC captain for a change and we decided to bat first.
Pitch - dusty but mostly with an even bounce
Weather -  both sunny and cloudy in equal measure .


BCCC batting - Did not go according to plan as both the clubs leading scorers Nik and Zef were out cheaply by the 5th over . Nik
did not help matters as he left a ball and it ended up taking his off stump! Also Putney's opening bowlers by this time started to bowl a good line and length so it was not easy going. A few cameo's by Sanjay 28 , Hasan 23  , Phil 24 and Nasir 12 whilst Graeme was holding fort at the other end helped BCCC get up to a fighting total but still 30-40 short of a par score . If it was not for Grame's 59 not out we would not have even go to 181 in the end. Considering the pitch was very dusty Putney did not get any of their spinners to bowl on the day - maybe they knew something we did not !!!    


Stand out bowlers for Putney were their opening bowler Rudd who bowled a very tight line and length and Ben their captain who took 3 wickets .


Batting figures -Nik - 4 , Zef - 18 , Sanjay - 28 , Graeme - 59 * , Hasan - 23 , Ash - 0 , Phil -24 , Nasir - 12, Hamza - 2*

Tea - A nice tea was had by all . For a change hot food was on the menu too.

Putney CC batting - their opening pair of Sethi 55 and Mark 102 * put on 112 runs as none of our bowlers made much of a dent
till Hasan finally got Sethi LBW in the 18th over . With still 70 odd runs to get Nik was bought on and it was obvious he had been away practising his slower leg cutter ball as he foxed quite a few bats in the end. Despite Sanjay's 2 wickets and Niks' 1 it was not to be as runs kept flowing off Mark's bat especially as by this time we had dropped Mark 3 times in total and hewent on to score a well deserved century in the end and see his team home comfortably in the 30 over !!


Stand out bowler/s for BCCC - Was Abi who the captain for some unknown reason bought on too late as he bowled very well and caused some issues especially for Mark in particular and in hindsight should have been bought on earlier .


Bowling figures :- Hamza - 3-0-19-0 , Ash - 5-0-22-0, Graeme - 3-0-16-0 , Nasir - 2-0-14-0 , Adi - 2-0-19-0 , Hasan- 3-0-24-1 , Nik - 5-0-23-1 , Sanjay -5-1-11-2, Abi- 2-1-8-0 .


Conclusion - BCCC need to stop depending on the top 2-3 bats and others need to contribute a bit more and especially take the catches when offered.
Putney were the better side team on the day overall  .   

Man of the Match - Graeme for his 59 not out runs but more importantly holding the BCCC innings together till the end .


Catch of the match - as only one was taken in the entire match I guess it has to be the captain running behind the fully prostate Phil on all fours watching the ball sailing over his head !!!

Embarrassing moments - Teamwise, over 5 catches were dropped again , some of them were dollies . Maybe it's true that catches win matches !!!


Man of the match: Graeme
