On Debut - Wicketkeeper Saurabh who had an excellent day . Gave away 0 byes , took 2 catches and a smart run out.
Toss - No change there as the BCCC captain lost the toss and we were put into the field.
Pitch - Lovely looking new pitch . Stayed a bit low but true .
Weather - Lovely sunny but cold day. First game of cricket of the season was played whilst it briefly snowed too !!!
RCC batting - Was not as strong as it usually is but saying that they had a few youngsters who looked good but unfortunately did not go on to put many runs on the board . Mainly thanks to Billy's 35 , their captain Suchin's 34 and a late flourish by Daksh , Yass and Felix they managed to put a par score of 165 in 36 overs . Overall around 60-70 runs short of a good total on this newly laid pitch at Barnes. BCCC bowled well but thanks to a few first match of the season cobwebs gave away a few more runs that we needed to in the field.
Bowling figures :- Toby - 4-0-25-1 , Ash - 5-1-16-3 , Graeme - 4-1-20-1 , Johnny - 6-0-22-1 , AJ- 6-0-37-0 , Adi - 7-1-17-1. Hasan - 4-0-23-1 .
Stand out bowlers for BCCC - Ash who bowled a good line and length mostly to end up with 3 wickets & Adi who in his 7 overs only gave away 17 runs and took 1 wicket
BCCC batting - Started well with Ciju and Zef putting on 100 runs in 16 overs , until Zef was unceremoniously asked by the captain to retire after getting his 50 not happy with this decision Zef went for a slog over midwicket to lose his middle stump to young Felix. Ciju was joined by the captain who as we all know is a very sensitive soul as he felt that he had the rest of the players telepathically asking him to get on with it as BCCC only needed 60 or so more with 9 wickets in hand and 24 overs remaining so he continued to do his usual, need a run off every ball routine and went for a big shot only to be caught for 5 at long off !!! The sacrifices some captains make for their team. Anyway in walked Keith who considering was running on one leg decided in his wisdom to go for a quick single and was duly run out by half a pitch length !! Johnny walked in looking like Captain Blackbeard with his lockdown flowing locks and longish beard to knock off a few boundaries before departing to give the Hanspal brothers a chance to bat together and safely see BCCC win comfortably in the end by 5 wickets with 14 overs still remaining
Stand out bowler for RCC - Felix their youngster who bowled really well and moved the ball both ways and ended up with 2 wickets
Conclusion - Regals did not put out their usual strong side but overall a good 1st match for BCCC as most got a bowl and a few got a good bat too.
Man of the Match - Ciju for his lovely knock of 55 retired.
Catch of the match - A few were taken , but the one from Graeme who is not known for taking catches stands out as he ran lets just say 10 yards to take a swirling catch and held on even though he had split his finger webbing.
Feilding moment of the match - Hassan smartly picking up and throwing a perfect throw into the keeper Saurabh hands who did the rest.
Shot/s of the day- The huge straight 6 by Zef onto the railway line .
