Barnes Common CC 2019 season : Played - 14 , Wins - 11 , Lost - 3 , Rained off - 1 BCCC 161 all out in 30 overs beat Washington CC 67 all out in 16 overs by 94 runs .
Debutants - Caleb the prodigal son returns from Oz and Johnny made a guest appearance on the common too. Toss - Agreed with the Washington captain Clinton that BCCC would bat 1st , easier than losing the toss again! Pitch - Unpredictable at times
Weather - As always a good day for cricket on the common.
Last match against them a few weeks ago ended with BCCC winning by over 170 runs ..
Thanks to the two Sajawal brothers Zef and Hamza this game ended the way it did as without their efforts it would have been a close game. Also apologies to Andrew as the captain whilst umpiring gave him out LBW 1st ball , the faint glove he got on the ball whilst trying to sweep went unnoticed . Saying that it is still a mystery why Andrew was playing the sweep shot the 1st ball he faced as one is used to seeing his Geoff Boycott like defence more often than not.
BCCC batting - Good batting line up on paper but only 1 or 2 players showed up on the day. Zef started cautiously but batted brilliantly for 30 overs to get his 2nd 100 of the season and with support from Caleb (17)put on a partnership of 75 runs and took us to a respectable score of 161 before being caught behind for 108. Out of the other BCCC bats only Graeme 10 and Sanjay 15 got into double figures and four players got ducks! Washington bowlers bowled well throughout the innings and kept chipping away at BCCC wickets at regular intervals. With Dan and Luke picking up 7 wickets between the two of them. Stand out bowler for Washington was Luke again who took a hatrick with figures of 7-2-16-4 . Batting figures -Zef - 108 , Nik - 2, Sanjay - 15, Graeme - 10 , Hamza - 4 , Andrew - 0 , Phil - 0 , Caleb- 17 , Adi - 1 Alex - 0 , Varun - 0 n.o. Tea - Thank you to both Claudia and Andrew for organising . Much appreciated . Washington batting - Never really took off as they lost wickets at an even more alarming rate than BCCC and were bowled out for a paltry 67 runs in the 16th over , the lowest total on the common for a long time . Out of the 67 runs 20 were extras. The only consolation was that the teams got a bit longer to spend in the pub afterwards. Hamza started the rot by picking up quick 4 wickets before slipping away to catch a flight to Dubai and thus foregoing his last over where he could have ended up with his 1st fifer of the season but it was not to be. Abi at the other end did well to pick up 2 wickets in his opening spell. After that the two leggies namely , Adi bowled very well without any funny stuff in particular to pick up 3 wickets in his 2 overs and Caleb picked up his 1st wicket for BCCC in 5 years on his one off return game.Andrew P asked if he could bowl too and the captain threw him the ball without any hesitation to stand in awe as Andrew clean bowled their last man out. Stand out bowlers for BCCC Hamza who in his 6 overs ended up taking 4 wickets for only 17 runs & Adi who in his 2 overs ONLY gave away 2 runs to claim 3 wickets . Bowling figures :- Hamza - 6-1-17-4. Abi- 6-0-31-2 , Adi - 2-0-2-3 , Caleb - 2-1-7-1 , Andrew - 1-0-4-1 . Conclusion - Good convincing win in the end made easy with some great bowling by BCCC bowlers. Men of the Match - Brothers in arms - Zef for his 108 and Hamza for his 4 wickets up front . Picture/s below . Catch of the match - Phil for his acrobatic diving catch behind the stumps , showing off again. Shot/s of the day - Usual big sixes by Zef. Pleasing moment - Seeing our very own normally grumpy "Tim the scorer " have a permanent smile on his face for the first time in years for the entire duration of the match.
Embarrassing moment/s - Our Oz returnee Caleb managed to drop a dolly but more alarmingly was the sight that he did not make any contact with the ball, made Zef's catching look good !!!
