BCCC 351 for 7 in 35 overs beat Washington CCby 243 runs
Barnes Common CC 2019 season : Played - 10 , Wins - 8 , Lost - 2 , Rained off - 1
Yesterdays game had over 8 cricket balls lost , records broken , reputations made and some broken especially for the opposition bowlers! BCCC 351 for 7 in 35 overs beat Washington CC (WCC)by 243 runs
Debutants - Abisheck Toss - Won by Washinton and BCCC were put in to bat . Pitch - Not cut so stayed low at times Weather - Nice but overcast day for cricket.
Last match against them in 2018 ended with BCCC losing by 6 wickets .
BCCC batting - Irritating as it was having to constantly look for lost balls in the foliage one has to say BCCC batted freely and may have managed to put the opposition bowlers off cricket for some time at least as it was a run feast to say the least . BCCC scored over 10 runs per over once WCC main opening bowler Luke finished his very useful 7 over spell and only giving away 23 runs. After that, unfortunately for WCC, both Sanjay 75 and Zef 182 not out tore apart WCC bowling. Over 20 6s were hit between Sanjay with 7 and Zef with 13. Useful cameos by Kiran 30 and Hasan 22 and Hamza who was unrepentantly run out by his brother Zef for 26 useful runs helped BCCC to get to their 2nd highest ever score on the common.Zef has cemented his No 6 spot after his performance yesterday . Imagine if he had turnedup on time and opened the innings as he was supposed to he may have even beaten the highest individual score of 197 not out which fortunately for Sanjay still stands 10 years later !!! Best comment was made by Luke who said "so the two brothers get to bat together" when he saw Kiran walk in to join Sanjay at the crease. 1 guess it could be taken as a compliment by Sanjay that Luke thought Kiran was his brother instead of being his son!
Stand out bowler for WCC was Luke , who upfront was difficult to get away .
Batting figures - Hasan - 22 , Graeme - 0 , Sanjay - 75 , Kiran - 30 , Henry - 2 , Zef - 182 not out ,Hamza - 26 , Phil - 0 , Joe 3 not out. Tea - Thank you to both Maureen and Dirk , much appreciated. Even Tim seemed to enjoy it for a change!
WCC batting - Being a player short and missing a few key bats did not help matters as WCC were rolled over for 108 runs in 23 overs. Only 4 of their bats made it into double figures. Nisar ex BCCC player started well by smacking a few 6's but once Graeme got his revenge by uprooting his middle stump only Clinton,Mike and Stuart showed some resistance. Once Henry tore out WCC middle order by taking 4 quick wickets the writing was on the wall and debutante Abishek cleaned up the last 2 bats without conceding a single run in his first of many overs for BCCC. A real anti climax in the end as BCCC had lined up a strong line up to face WCC as they generally put a strong side out .
Stand out bowler for BCCC was young Indian import pace bowler Abishek who in his 1st ever over for BCCC claimed 2 wickets and gave away no runs!
Conclusion - Well deserved victory for BCCC, a good team effort again especially Zef with some amazing hitting. Man of the Match - Had to be Zef for his for his 182 not out with 13 sixes. Catch of the match - only one catch was presented and sheepishly taken by an embarrassed Kiran !! Shot/s of the day - A purist's on drive by Kiran for 4 and some brutal very big 6s by Zef .
Embarrassing moment - None, as our fielding which is our Achilles heel was above standard thanks to some influx of youth and maybe as two of our regulars were not playing!
